Welcome to the Diversiton April Newsletter! "CHECK-UP" BOOKLET LAUNCHED
Are you familiar with the dietary requirements of different faiths and beliefs? Do your staff know what to do if a Muslim patient dies?
Check-Up is a handy and practical guide to the special healthcare needs of ethnic-religious minority communities. It covers the Jewish, Bahá’í, Muslim, Hindu/Vaishnava, Chinese, Buddhist and Skih traditions. Practical situations such as dress, diet, birth, surgery, care of the dying and death are covered. The booklet is produced in conjunction with a range of Health Trusts and with the support of the Northern Ireland Inter-Faith Forum.
Personnel Management Journal recently reported the results of a survey in the Equal Opportunities Review (Number 136), which revealed that little awareness training on the new legislation on Religion and Belief had taken place and most organisations were not confident their managers had the skills to cope with issues arising under the regulations. With an increasing number of claims now being heard by tribunals, creating more knowledge of how to accommodate cultural diversity will be a key issue for HR specialists in 2005. Managers and employees need a greater understanding of any religious practices or faiths with which they are not familiar.
Extra dates for our award winning half day General Courses on Religion & Belief are now available in Northampton, Manchester, Leicester, Birmingham, London, Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge, Wakefield, Bristol, Edinburgh and Newcastle. Please see http://www.diversiton.com/courses.asp to reserve a place.
